We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Does anyone else find comfort in the scripture above? This scripture has spoken to me time after time in my life. I have had my fair share of death and loss of all kinds in my lifetime, but this scripture has frequently sustained me.
Now, let me be very transparent, I do not pretend to understand I have it all figured out when it comes to death, loss, or the evil world we live in. However, I know two things for sure: God makes all things work together for good (Romans 8:28), and, what was meant to harm you, God will use for good (Genesis 50:20).
Recently, I went through a bit of a rough situation. To be honest, it crushed my heart. I was angry and hurt. Emotionally, it sucked the life right out of me. I didn’t understand why or how this crazy thing had happened, but despite my understanding or lack thereof, it was real. Now, this wasn’t something I was ready to share with the world, so I haven’t. But almost immediately, God began to remind me that He can make all things good, even this.
I have held tight to God’s whisper since that situation happened. And then came the chance for God to create something beautiful from it. A couple months later, I had a dear friend over and she was sharing some circumstances she too was facing. As she began to share, God began to prick my heart to share my story. They weren’t necessarily the same, but she needed to know she wasn’t alone, and sharing my story with her helped her heart.
At the time I shared with her, I was just trying to be obedient to God’s voice. I wasn’t looking at it as finding the good, but as I was alone with Jesus a week or so later, God showed me how He took something that was meant for evil and used it for the good of someone else. He used something that I believed no good could possibly come from to comfort the heart of a dear friend.
I don’t know what situations you may be facing today, but I do know God is able to make all things good. You may wonder how it’s even possible, but all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). I pray as you face trials, you remember the goodness of God. You may not see it today, but good always comes to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. What the devil meant for evil, God intends for the good of you and others.
